"Friday is a difficult day, the market is either booming or as it has been today, doing nothing," said a trader. Palm oil prices closed unchanged across the board following an Ivan Wong report which was seen as bearish by traders in the Far East. Wong put local exports at a record 675,000 tonnes during Aug while he forecast output at 801,000 tonnes, up 11 pct from July against market estimates of five to eight percent higher. Wong estimated stocks at 785,000 tonnes. The previous highest monthly export total was 658,200 tonnes, in January 1994. Traders said the output data looked bearish for the market despite the record exports during August. "The exports for August look very good for the Malaysian players, but this month hasn't got off to a very good start," said a trader. There have been no tenders from major buyers since India rejected all bids last Friday. Coconut oils closed unchanged to $2.50 up after Sep/Oct traded at $720 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil was unchanged and tradeless. Soft oils finished higher with soy oil one to 1.50 guilders up and rape oil 0.50 to 1.75 guilders higher after Feb/Mar traded at 101 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
