Malaysian cargo surveyor Caleb Brett estimated local August palm oil exports at 715,550 tonnes, while SGS put overseas sales at 708,601 tonnes. Malaysian exports during July were 646,017 tonnes, the second highest monthly figure recorded. The all-time high was 658,200 tonnes in January 1994. Malaysian traders are bullish on expectations of fresh tenders from traditional buyers, but European traders are more cautious. They said the market was looking overbought and if prices continued to rise palm oil would not be competitive against soft oils. "India rejected all bids on Friday because prices were too high," said one. Others said crude palm oil (CPO) was looking vulnerable. "CPO is only hanging on by the skin of its teeth, supported by olein and at the moment very few buyers will touch it," said one trader. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed $5 to $2.50 up, while refined palm oil was was mixed with RBD palm oil $5 up and olein $5 down to unchanged with no further business reported. Lauric oil and soft oils were neglected and closed with coconut oil unchanged to $5 up, palmkernel oil $12.50 to $2.50 higher, while soy oil was 1.50 guilders higher to unchanged and rape oil unchanged to 0.50 guilders up.
