Palm oil took it's lead from the Far East where prices continued to drift lower as the correction continued after the recent sharp increases. However, traders said there is little doubt prices will bounce back in the short term owing to demand from India but there could be a set back towards the end of the year. In lauric oils, coconut oil started the day lower following on from Wednesday's close but later recovered. In the soft oil sector business was at a virtual standstill again with most participants seemingly happy to sit out the Chicago weather market. At the close of business crude palm oil cif Europe was $5 to $2.50 down while refined palm oil was mixed at $5 up to $5 down with no further business reported. Coconut oil was also mixed at $2.50 down to $5 up after Sep/Oct traded at $710 and Oct/Nov at $705 a tonne cif. Palmernel oil closed $15 down in a neglected market. In soft oils, soy oil finished 0.50 to 0.75 guilders lower while rape oil was one guilder up to 0.75 guilders down in tradeless markets.
