Coconut oil closes sharply down on European market
LONDON, Aug 28 (Reuter) - Coconut oil prices were sharply
lower at the close of business in Europe on Wednesday.
In trading largely by dealers, selling levels dropped by as
much as $20 a tonne, but traders said the fall was not as
dramatic as it looked.
"The market hasn't done a lot recently so in a way it has
been catching up today," said one.
Palm oil prices closed lower following profit-taking in
Kuala Lumpur during the European morning.
Traders said the market was looking over bought, but in the
short term at least, the bull run was not over.
Traders believe India will only remain in the market until
its own vegetable oil crops start to come in during November and
China is unlikely to do any substantial buying of palm oil while
the price remains high.
Soft oils had been supported by a firm Chicago market on
Tuesday but towards the close sellers had started to back track
as the U.S. market came in lower.
However, business remains slow with buyers not keen to take
fresh positions as most refiners seem to be comfortable and
happy to sit the weather market out for the time being.
At the close coconut oil was $10 to $20 down after Jul/Aug
traded at $760, Aug/Sep $725, Sep/Oct $710, Oct/Nov $705 and
Nov/Dec at $700 a tonne cif. Traders said all these prices has
been paid a number of times.
In the remainder of the market no further business was
reported.
Crude palm oil closed unchanged to $5 down while refined
palm oil was $2.50 to $7.50 lower.
Soft oils closed with soy oil unchanged to 0.50 guilder down
and rape oil mixed at two guilders up to 0.25 guilder lower.
