Speculative selling drove the benchmark December contract down more than 5.00 cents this morning to a low of 147.50 cents a lb before the market managed to more than halve its losses. At 1157 EST, December was 2.20 cents lower at 151.40 cents, toward the upper end of its 153.00 to 147.50 range. Second-month March fell 1.35 cents to 141.60 cents, while the rest of the board was down 1.00 to 2.90 cents. Traders said this morning's activity was mainly chart-driven, with the benchmark December contract breaching support near 151 to 150 cents and triggering commission house sell-stops. Technically, they said December now has support near the low at 147.50 cents, with sell stops thought to be building just below that level. They were also keeping an eye on last week's low of 146.10 cents. Resistance was pegged near 154 to 155 cents, with a stronger hurdle noted at 157.00 cents.
