CSCE world sugar ends marginally higher
NEW YORK, Oct 27 (Reuters) - CSCE world sugar prices ended
marginally higher Monday on moderate volumes, helped by light
buying by funds and locals, traders said.
"It was a quiet day with little news and the only action
came from light fund buying," Prudential Securities analyst
Morris Rynsky said.
CSCE March sugar ended up 0.08 cent at 11.89 cents a pound,
after trading an 11.80-11.89 cent range on estimated volume of
about 10,000 lots. The March contract managed to end just above
its 55-day (quarterly) moving average, but producer selling was
noted at the highs, traders said.
The March/May contango narrowed slightly to 0.03 cent.
World sugar prices remain near the 12 month highs seen
mid-year, though recent crop reports suggest the feared fall in
production this season may not be much of a worry after all.
While forecasts for a world supply deficit in the 1997/98
season have kept prices well supported, prospects for strong
production in Europe should keep a lid on the market for the
time being, dealers said.
