Steady trade selling in the spreads pressured the spot month to the day's low of 11.42 cents where local short-covering stymied losses. One trader said pricing by Cargill helped lift the contract over unchanged and attracted commission house buying, which carried the contract to the day's high of 11.57 cents. "There were rumors of stops at 11.42 that the trade was looking for but there was nothing there," a sugar broker said. Prices are expected to remain in a range between 11.40-11.65 cents through Friday, and then gradually creep higher. A move over the contract high of 11.65 cents in October reached on Tuesday could attract additional fund buying, dealers said. But open interest remains extremely high at 108,052 lots as of Wednesday, up 2,182 lots from the previous session. The heavy liquidity and the lack of fundamental news makes prices vulnerable to a washout, traders said. They pegged support at 11.40 cents followed by 11.25-11.20 cents basis the October contract. October settled 0.07 cent firmer at 11.56 cents a lb, having ranged from 11.57 to 11.42 cents. The rest of the board finished 0.07 to 0.10 cent higher.
