Traders said they had been half expecting some follow-through from Tuesday once the U.S. houses re-entered the market. Origins were seen on both sides of the market but consumers were not as evident as they had been on Tuesday when traders estimated that 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes of oil had been sold. By the close offers for coconut oil were $25 to $12.50 a tonne down with business reported down to $580 a tonne. Jun/Jul fetched $590, while $585 was paid for Jul/Aug and Aug/Sep. Sep/Oct traded at $585 and $580 while $580 was also paid for Oct/Nov. Soft oils sellers trimmed their prices at the close following the sharply lower opening in Chicago and finished with soy oil 1.50 to 0.50 guilders up after Aug/Oct traded at 108.50 and Nov/Jan at 105.25 guilders per 100 kilos. Rape oil closed 0.25 to 0.75 guilders higher after Aug traded at 104.50 and Nov/Jan at 104.75 guilders per 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Palm oil prices were lower with a build-up in stocks against a background of poor demand depressing the market. Crude palm oil closed unchanged while products were $2.50 to $7.50 lower with no further business reported. Traders said they expected little activity in the palm oil sector on Thursday with most of Asia closed for local holidays. News that Egypt had purchased 28,500 tonnes of sunflower oil for second half August arrival had little impact on the market.
