However, trading was subdued in all sectors following the unexpected lower opening on the U.S. market. "Chicago was called to open higher, but when it opened sharply lower, most people decided to call it a day," said one trader. Palm oil has been taking a battering since Wednesday evening on the European market with selling pressure come from origin and consumers. "Fundamentally palm oil is looking very sick with increasing production and stocks, but no major export business," said one trader. The new Indonesia export tax structure was also seen as beginning to take its toll on the market. "The new export tax was seen as bearish, but only in the long term, because high demand in Indonesia was expected to slow the impact, but it now seems people are taking more notice of it," said another trader. On Monday Indonesia announced a revision of its palm oil export tax structure. Under the new structure, crude palm oil would be subject to a tax of five percent, RBD palm oil four percent, RBD palm olein two percent and crude olein four percent. Buying by one major refiner in on the Malaysian market is still puzzling traders. "People don't know quite what the refiner is up to, whether he is trying to support the market or cover business," said one trader. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed with sellers $7.50 to $5 lower while products were $7.50 to $2.50 down with no further business reported during the afternoon. Coconut oil closed mixed at $2.50 down to $5 up after Jul/Aug traded at $607.50 a tonne cif in a switch with Sep/Oct at even money. Palmkernel oil was neglected and finished $2.50 to $5 lower. Dutch soy oil closed 0.50 to one guilder down while rape oil was 0.75 to 1.50 guilders lower. Trading was light and took place before the Chicago market opened. Nov/Jan soy oil fetched 102 guilders while Aug rape oil traded at 102.50 and 102 and Nov/Jan at 102 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
