The U.S. market was called to open lower on ideal growing conditions in the main U.S. soybean production areas. But after opening sharply lower soybeans rallied and have been trading erratically since. "Soy oil opened lower and has stayed down, but beans have been up and down like a yo yo and this has sidelined most people," said one trader. Palm oil sellers felt the pinch earlier in the day following the release of Malaysian private forecaster Ivan Wong's latest crop report which estimated June exports at 595,000 tonnes against 626,606 in May. Wong also estimated palm oil output in June at 785,000 tonnes, against the 790,640 tonnes in May. He put stocks at the end of June at 795,000 tonnes, against the 711,8541 tonnes tallied by the Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority at end-May. Traders said the exports were very low and were more bad news for an already bearish market. "This will certainly put the market back on the defensive with all eyes now on Chicago," said one trader. News that Indonesia has restructured its palm oil export tax has been little impact on the market yet. "People are still digesting the news from Indonesia," said another trader. At the close Dutch soy oil sellers were 0.50 to 0.75 guilders down after Nov/Jan traded at 102 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill prior to the Chicago opening. Dutch/EU rape oil offers were 0.50 to one guilder down with no business reported. Crude palm oil cif Europe, refined palm oil and olein all closed $2.50 to $5 lower. Coconut oil finished with sellers $10 to $7.50 down after Jul/Aug, Aug/Sep and Sep/Oct all traded at $615 while $612.50 was paid for Oct/Nov. Palmkernel oil closed with offers $5 to $7.50 lower in a neglected market. Informacije: Zoran Popijač telefon: 01/273-927 fax: 01/4550-148 081024 MET jul 97
