Prices rose during the morning following the higher close in Chicago based on short covering ahead of the Independence Day holiday and talk of export business to China. Palm oil offers were up in sympathy with Chicago and gaining further support from steady buying by one major player. "One refiner has been buying steadily for the past three days and maybe covering some export business," said one trader. At the close of business in Europe soy oil was 0.50 guilders up while rape oil was 0.25 guilders higher. The only business reported was a couple of switches between Aug/Oct and Nov/Jan rape oil at even money. Traders said 104 and 104.50 guilders had been talked about but this was meaningless. "With switches you can put what ever price you like," said one. Crude palm oil closed $5 to $10 up while products were $2.50 to $5 higher. Coconut oil closed $2.50 down after Jun/Jul traded at $625, and Aug/Sep and Oct/Nov at $620 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil finished $2.50 to $5 down in a neglected market.
