Chicago soy oil futures hit a new four year low following the USDA report which put 1997 U.S. soybean acreage at 70.85 million acres, the highest since 1982 and above local trade expectations of 68.4 million. Early gains in soft oils were wiped out while crude palm oil lost a further $2.50 to $5 a tonne. European traders forecast lower palm oil prices on Tuesday when the Malaysian markets open. "Malaysian players will try and fight it but in the end they will have to follow the Chicago market," said one trader. Earlier, palm oil prices in Europe had fallen on the back of bearish Malaysian palm oil export data. Malaysian cargo surveyor SGS put local exports during June at 611,368 tonnes against 672,805 tonnes in May. Traders in Asia said the figures were within expectations but European players said they were not supportive. Further data is expected on Tuesday from cargo surveyor Caleb Brett. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed $7.50 down while products were $5 to $7.50 lower with no further business reported. Dutch soy oil closed with sellers one to 0.50 guilders down while rape oil was 0.75 to one guilder lower. Among lauric oils coconut oil was $2.50 to $5 down and palmkernel oil $2.50 to $10 lower with no buyers in sight. Informacije: Zoran Popijač telefon: 01/273-927 fax: 01/4550-148 011019 MET jul 97
