"Chicago is unbelievable and bears no relationship to the market outside of the pits," said a trader. "....their product is already overpriced," said another. Fund managers latched onto lower than expected stocks of U.S. soymeal and in a wave of aggressive buying pushed soymeal up the limit while soybeans were sharply higher. However soy oil futures lagged behind the rest of the market. In Europe soy oil closed 0.50 guilders up to 0.50 guilders down while rape oil was 0.50 to 0.75 guilders lower after Aug/Oct traded at 101 guilders and Nov/Jan at 102.25 guilders prior to the Chicago opening. Palm oil sellers prices were following the release of the latest export data from Malaysia. Malaysian cargo surveyor Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) Malaysia Sdn Bhd said it estimated Malaysia's palm oil exports for March 1-20 were 391,599 against 269,684 in February 1-20. "On the face of it the figure looks bullish, but most people will want to compare these figures with stocks and output data," said one trader. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed unchanged to $2.50 up after Apr traded at $557.50 and $560, Jul/Sep at $552.50 and Oct/Dec at $547.50 a tonne cif. Traders said although a lot of the business was not reported until the afternoon it had all taken place before the U.S. markets opened. Products closed unchanged to $5 up with no further business reported. Coconut oil sellers were $2.50 to $5 higher after Feb/Mar traded in a switch with Mar/Apr at a $5 spread.
