Trading, in general, was extremely slow on a market affected by the holidays in Asia. Most markets in Asia are closed owing to the back to back Moslem Eid-Fitr festivals and Chinese New year holidays. In the soft oils sector a lack of fresh news and spill-over sentiment from the tropical oils kept interest at a minimum. "Most people are catching up with paper work and waiting to see how Chicago opens before calling it a day," said one trader. However, some light trading was reported in soft oils prior to the Chicago opening when Feb soy oil fetched 128.25 guilders and Feb rape oil 129.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Closing soy oil sellers were 0.50 to one guilder down while rape oil was 0.50 guilders up to one guilder down. Coconut oil attracted some consumer interest at the lower levels with Apr/May traded at $557.50 and $560 and May/Jun at $577.50 a tonne cif. Sellers were unchanged to $5 up at the close while palmkernel oil was again unquoted. Crude palm oil cif Europe was quoted unchanged to $5 up while products were unchanged to $2.50 higher.
