Chicago soy oil futures fell sharply in fast trading as funds bailed out of the market, however traders in Europe taking a wait-and-see attitude. "Let's see what happens at the close," said one. Traders were more focused on the Malaysian palm oil futures which will reopen on Wednesday with no limits after closing three trading days in a row locked up the limit. On Friday the market closed 50 ringgit up, on Monday it was locked up the extended 75 ringgit limit and on Tuesday in finished the further extended 100 ringgit limit up. "It's any bodies guess what will happen as it all depends on currency," said one trader. However prices in Europe, which are traded in dollars, have not followed the Malaysian futures. At the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $2.50 down to unchanged while products were $5 up to $2.50 down with no further business reported. The full impact of the 75 ringgit, limit-up, close on the Malaysian palm oil futures market was not felt on the palm oil market Europe. Traders said the rise on the KLCE was mainly due to the weakness of the Malaysian ringgit against the dollar. "The rise is 90 percent currency, although the export ban by Indonesia and good Malaysian export numbers has given some support," said one. On Friday January 2, Malaysian cargo surveyor Caleb Brett put local December bulk palm oil exports at 742,251 tonnes against its estimate of 657,476 tonnes for November. The Malaysian Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority put official November exports at 634,224 tonnes.
