Schiessling has said in a statement that after the guilty verdict, Sanader does not deserve the Tyrolean Eagle honour he received in 2004, adding that a recent change to the law on state honours envisages such cases and that he must be stripped of it in order to ensure the significance of the honour.
Zagreb's County Court last week found Sanader guilty, pending appeal, of war profiteering and murky dealings in the Hypo bank and INA-MOL cases, sentencing him to 10 years in prison.
