Josipovic says INA-MOL, Cacic don't affect Croatia-Hungary relations

ZAGREB, Nov 24 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said in Pecs on Saturday the cases of the Croatian oil and gas company INA, Hungary's MOL and former Croatian First Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic could in no way impact Croatian-Hungarian relations.

Responding to questions from the press, Josipovic said Cacic's case "is a judicial matter and there's really no conflict between the states. It's not an interstate issue."

As for INA, he said it was first and foremost "an economic matter that will certainly be solved in the interest of both states."

Josipovic was visiting Pecs to attend the traditional Croat Days event.

Speaking to the press after meeting representatives of the Croat community in Hungary, he said it was perhaps the best organised Croat minority and that when it came to minorities and respect for minority rights, Croatian-Hungarian relations were exemplary.

Josipovic said minorities had financial problems but that in these times it was not possible to invest in culture, science and such cooperation without limit. But, he said, they have their institutions, including kindergartens, schools and theatres. "The position of the Croat community here is very good, we are satisfied and cooperation is good."

He recalled, however, that the Croat community was not represented in the Hungarian parliament because "the regulations here are different than ours." "But there are certain expectations and we hope this will be dealt with."

Josipovic is scheduled to meet with Hungarian President Janos Ader later today.

Hungary has a Croat population of 40,000-50,000. They are protected by the Hungarian Constitution. Hungary is a signatory to Council of Europe documents on the protection of minorities. Croatia and Hungary signed an agreement on the protection of the respective minorities on 5 April 1995.

The annual Croat Days have been held since 2000.
