Pusic says chances for Croatian companies to return to Qatar realistic

ZAGREB/CAIRO, Nov 13 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic said on Tuesday in Cairo, where she held talks with her Qatari counterpart, that chances for Croatian companies to return to Qatar were realistic and that an agreement had been reached with Qatari officials that this issue should be resolved to the benefit of both countries.

"This was an opportunity to agree with the Qatari minister to secure support for some Croatian companies that used to do business in Qatar and which did quality work but were faced with some other problems," Pusic said after talks with Foreign Minister Khalid Bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers and the Arab League.

Pusic, who also met with the Qatari minister during the visit of Croatia's delegation to Qatar this week, said this visit was very important and successful.

"I believe we have achieved an exceptionally high level of understanding with our Qatari colleagues and there is a possibility for cooperation in large infrastructure and energy projects, international development assistance, science, education, culture," Pusic said.

The Croatian minister stressed that the meeting of European Union foreign ministers and the Arab League was the most important event in international relations at this moment, after a new coalition of the Syrian opposition has been formed ahead of a discussion of the status of Palestine within the United Nations.

"Croatia is included in the talks on Syria and is prepared to help stabilise Syria, prevent bloodshed and help civilians," Pusic said.

On the fringes of the meeting in Cairo, Pusic held a number of bilateral meetings with her counterparts from the Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Morocco and Tunisia.
