EP health committee delegation visits Croatian parliament

ZAGREB, Oct 30 (Hina) - The Croatian parliamentary Health and Social Welfare Committee on Tuesday met with a delegation of the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee, with the head of the delegation, Jo Leinen, expressing an interest in Croatia's system of fighting malignant diseases and in patients' rights.

The chair of the Croatian committee, Biljana Borzan, informed the guests about increased funds Croatia was investing in disease prevention.

Committee member Zeljko Reiner said cardiovascular diseases were the "number one killer" in Croatia, followed by malignant diseases. He also said there were too many smokers.

Reiner recalled that Croatia was second in Europe in the number of organ transplants, just after Spain.
