Funeral committee for parliament speaker formed

ZAGREB, Sept 30 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Sunday formed a funeral committee for Speaker Boris Sprem, who died in a US hospital this morning, and a book of condolence will be opened in parliament on 9am on Monday.

The funeral committee comprises Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, deputy prime ministers and deputy parliament speakers Radimir Cacic, Milanka Opacic, Neven Mimica, Branko Grcic, Josip Leko, Nenad Stazic, Milorad Batinic, Zeljko Reiner and Tomislav Culjak, President Ivo Josipovic's chief of staff Vito Tursic, Labour Minister Mirando Mrsic, and parliament secretary Slaven Hojski.

The committee is due to meet tonight.

Sprem, who suffered from multiple myeloma, died at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston early Sunday morning, Central European Time. He was 56. His body is expected to arrive in Croatia on Wednesday, when parliament is expected to hold a commemoration with his family. The funeral is expected to take place on Thursday, which will be declared a day of mourning.
