Water management contracts worth EUR 116.5 mln signed

ZAGREB, Sept 27 (Hina) - Representatives of the Hrvatske Vode water service company and 132 utility companies on Thursday signed contracts for water management projects worth HRK 866 million in total, financed as part of the government's investment programme.

Investments in water protection total HRK 422.8 million and those in water supply development HRK 443.3 million. They are in compliance with the Water Management Strategy.

Economy Minister Radimir Cacic said the problem was no longer whether Croatia had the projects or the money, but if it could carry them out.

Hundreds of companies participating in investments and their sub-contractors will be engaged in the realisation of the contracts, which is what Croatia needs, he said, adding that everything was being done to kickstart the economy.

Hrvatske Vode has an ambitious plan and all indicators show it will be realised almost completely, said Cacic. He recalled that although not even 40 per cent had been realised so far, the plan was 50 per cent bigger than last year's.

Asked how other state companies were doing, Cacic said the Hrvatske Ceste road management company would do very well, while the Hrvatske Autoceste motorway company was in serious trouble.

Rail operator Hrvatske Zeljeznice has a serious problem in restructuring and positioning, it will not be able to carry out the tasks ahead but its results will nonetheless be better than last year, he added.
