Zagreb Archbishop says political manipulation with territory unacceptable

ZAGREB, Sept 21 (Hina) - The Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, said on Friday that political manipulation with Croatian state territory was unacceptable, notably when the border was concerned.

Bozanic received the head of the Croatian State Archive, Stjepan Cosic, who gave him a book on the Croatian-Bosnian border issue.

According to a statement from the Zagreb Archdiocese, Bozanic is acquainted with the different views of the complex border issue and supports "the efforts of those who, in the light of scientific facts and expert evaluations, are seeking solutions while defending the truth."

Bozanic advocated those positions that are not based on rushed moves that could endanger Croatian national interests and harm the Croatian people, the statement said.

Bozanic said this was a serious matter that required the utmost responsibility not only of politicians but also society and the scientific community as well as the patriotic conscience of Croatian MPs, the statement said.

All this calls for the wisdom of those responsible regarding the border on the Klek peninsula and for the determination not to adopt a political decision whereby Croatia would lose part of its territory, the statement said.
