Latvia supports Croatia on EU path

RIGA, Sept 14 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic met with her Latvian counterpart Edgars Rinkevics in Riga on Friday and he reiterated Latvia's support to Croatia.

Latvia ratified Croatia's European Union Accession Treaty on March 22. President Andris Berzins signed the ratification law in early April, during a visit by Croatian President Ivo Josipovic.

I'm glad there will be 28 of us next year and we will no longer say 27+1, Rinkevics said at the meeting in the Latvian Foreign Ministry.

Pusic arrived in Riga today and tonight is scheduled to attend the Riga Conference 2012.

Rinkevics was interested in her take on the situation in Southeast Europe. The two ministers also discussed the Baltic Sea Macro-region within the EU and how to transfer this model of successful cooperation between Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to the Adriatic region.

It's crucial that Southeast Europe has a European prospect and Croatia is already conveying to its neighbours its experience from the negotiating process, notably through the Centre of Excellence, said Pusic.

Latvia has continually advocated Croatia's foreign policy goals in international circles, believing that countries of similar sizes and histories should work together to achieve their interests, notably within the EU.
