Holy Mass said in Knin on occasion of Victory Day

KNIN, Aug 5 (Hina) - Military Bishop Juraj Jezrinac, who held the solemn mass in Knin on Sunday on the occasion of Victory Day and the 17th anniversary of Operation Storm, said that not only an economic crisis but also a crisis of the civilisation was going on which was why the Croatian society needed people who would instill the spirit of confidence and put in motion the country's positive powers.

At the beginning of the mass, the dignitary sent his greetings to Croatian generals detained in The Hague on the basis of indictments of the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Jezerinac also expressed gratitude to Croatian soldiers who gave their lives.

"They showed an amazing strength. Croatia will keep lasting memories of their sacrifice, and the country's international recognition is their best reward," he said.

During his sermon Jezerinac also said that the Apostolic Roman Catholic Church had always guarded and protected the land of the Croats and helped it to preserve the national and religious identity. He said that in order to preserve its national identity Croatians should adhere to the messages from the Gospel.

"This should be emphasised particularly today when there are attempts in Europe, including our country, to belittle the Christian values," he added.

In attendance to the mass were Deputy Parliament Speaker Tomislav Culjak, War Veterans' Affairs Minister Predrag Matic, and some other state and local officials.
