UniCredit leading bank, Triglav leading insurer in Adria region, says Deloitte

ZAGREB, July 22 (Hina) - UniCredit with total assets of 20.8 billion euros remains the leading banking group in the Adria region, and the Triglav Group with nearly 921 million euros of collected premiums is the leading insurer, according to an analysis conducted by the Deloitte company among 15 major banks and insurance companies in the region consisting of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia.

Intesa SanPaolo was ranked second with total assets of EUR 16 billion, while the NLB Group (EUR 15.9 billion) moved downward by one place to third position.

The Hypo Group (EUR10.6 billion) and the RBA Group (EUR 10.5 billion) were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Deloitte highlighted the arrival of Russia's Sberbank on the Adria market as a significant change. This leading Russian bank acquired eight members of the Volksbank International Group in September 2011 for EUR 505 million.

According to the analysis, Zagrebacka Banka (ZABA), a member of the UniCredit Group, has the biggest share in Croatia's bank sector with assets worth EUR 13.8 billion. It is followed by Privredna Banka Zagreb (PBZ), a member of Intesa Sanpaolo, with assets of EUR 8.9 billion. Erste&Steiermaerkische Bank is third with assets totalling EUR 7.5 billion.

Croatia's banking sector, with assets of EUR 54 billion, is the largest one in the Adria region.

As for insurance companies, Slovenia's Triglav is the leading insurer in the Adria region, and is followed by the Croatian insurance company Croatia Osiguranje Group (EUR 427 million in premiums in 2011). Adriatic Slovenica Group (EUR 333 million) ousted Croatia's Agram from third position.

In the Croatian market, Croatia Osiguranje tops the ranking and is followed by Allianz (EUR 136.8 million) and Euroherc (EUR 134.5 million).
