Higher fuel taxes to be applied as of July 24, government decides

ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - New HRK 0.15 higher excise taxes on motor gasolines and gas oil will not be applied as of Tuesday but as of July 24, the Croatian government decided on Monday, postponing the increase after taking into account events on the oil products market.

Finance Minister Slavko Linic said at last week's government session that fuel prices were expected to go down on Tuesday, close to the prices in early March 2011, when the previous government reduced fuel taxes.

According to unofficial predictions in some media, the higher fuel taxes would be accompanied by higher gasoline and diesel prices.

As of midnight on Monday, the prices of motor gasolines will be HRK 0.05 or 0.06 higher per litre, while diesel fuels will go down between HRK 0.02 and 0.08 per litre, the Economy Ministry decided today.

The new prices will be applied until July 23.

This is the first increase in gasoline prices in a little over two months, while diesel prices have been declining for the eighth consecutive accounting period.
