National Democratic Institute offers code of conduct for Bosnian local polls

MOSTAR, July 6 (Hina) - Representatives of the US National Democratic Institute (NDI), which helps in the development of democracy around the world, have called on Bosnian political parties to change the incendiary rhetoric during the upcoming campaign for local elections and presented during talks with the two HDZ parties a code of conduct which the two parties committed to honouring.

The HDZ BiH said in a press release on Friday that its president, Dragan Covic, and HDZ BiH vice president Martin Raguz held talks with the NDI's director for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nenad Simovic, and that the code of conduct of political parties in election campaigns was offered to all parties ahead of campaigning for the October elections.

The code promotes respect, responsibility, tolerance and the culture of dialogue which was often undermined by nationalist rhetoric during Bosnian election campaigns.
