Deputy parliament speaker receives Bosnian, Malaysian, Egyptian ambassadors

ZAGREB, July 2 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Parliament Speaker Josip Leko on Monday received Bosnian Ambassador Vladimir Raspudic, Malaysian Ambassador Yean Yoke Heng, and Egyptian Ambassador Iman Mohamed Medhat Elfarr.

Leko thanked Raspudic for his contribution to Croatian-Bosnian relations, saying Croatia was existentially tied to and interested in cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that it would continue supporting Bosnia's Euro-Atlantic integration policy.

Leko said the Croats were a constituent people in Bosnia and that Croatia supported the establishment of equality of all three Bosnian peoples as well as all Bosnian citizens.

Raspudic underlined the importance of cooperation between the Croatian Parliament and the Bosnian lower house of Parliament, agreeing with Leko that it was necessary to intensify economic relations in light of Croatia's accession to the European Union in 2013, and that the coexistence of the civic and the ethnic was one of the basics that would enable Bosnia to move forward.

During Leko's talks with the ambassador of Malaysia, it was agreed that political relations between the two countries were very good, without outstanding issues, and that cooperation on the multilateral plane was also good, notably within the UN.

The two officials agreed economic cooperation should be improved, with Leko advocating visits by relevant state bodies and chambers of commerce.

Malaysia is interested in the energy sector and infrastructure, the use of Croatian ports for the transport of its goods to other European countries, and in cooperation in tourism, culture, science and education, Parliament said in a press release.

The Egyptian ambassador informed Leko about the political situation in her country.

Leko said Croatian-Egyptian relations were very good and that Croatia was closely following developments in Egypt, which he said had an important role in the Arab world. He said Croatia wanted to pursue political cooperation.

The ambassador said Egypt too was interested in pursuing political cooperation with Croatia, adding that she was pleased that Egypt's foreign minister would attend the Croatia Summit this weekend.

She agreed it was necessary to pursue economic cooperation and expressed a wish for cultural cooperation, saying it would improve bilateral relations.
