Disability Ombudswoman briefs parliament about her work

ZAGREB, May 30 (Hina) - The Office of the Disability Ombudswoman dealt with a total of 1,446 cases, initiatives and other activities aimed at the protection, monitoring and promotion of the rights and interests of persons with disabilities in 2011, Disability Ombudswoman Anka Slosnjak told the Croatian parliament on Wednesday while presenting a report on her office's performance last year.

As for complaints and inquires sent to the Office, most (23%) referred to social protection, 16.2% were requests for advice or financial help, 11.7% were about healthcare, 10.8% were about employment and 7.3% were about pension insurance, Slosnjak said.

The office expressed concern about problems in dealing with autism.

In mid-January 2012, as many as 518,081 people were registered in the national registry of disabled people.
