Croatian president to attend security conference in Bratislava

ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic will attend a conference on global security in Bratislava on Thursday and Friday, where experts from both sides of the Atlantic will discuss the future of the Western Balkans, the European debt crisis and other global security and political issues.

The two-day conference will be attended by heads of state and foreign and defence ministers from many European countries who will discuss key issues that will dominate a NATO summit scheduled to take place in Chicago in May.

The GLOBSEC conference is being hosted by Bratislava for the seventh year and has become one of the leading foreign policy and security forums in central Europe.

On the first day of the conference a formal dinner will be held to mark the 10th anniversary of a NATO summit in Prague when seven central European countries were invited to join the alliance.

A month before the NATO summit in Chicago, GLOBSEC is an opportunity for foreign ministers from central and eastern European countries to harmonise their views on key issues that will be discussed at the Chicago summit.

Croatia joined NATO on April 1, 2009.
