Josipovic expects Slovenia to ratify Croatia's EU Accession Treaty soon

LJUBLJANA, April 7 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has said that he believes the Slovenian parliament will soon ratify Croatia's Accession Treaty with the European Union.

"That would only confirm the good relations and friendship between our countries," Josipovic said in an interview with Saturday's edition of the leading Slovenian daily, Delo, adding that he believed the treaty would be ratified in a reasonable time and that he did not expect any problems in that regard.

Regarding arbitration for the border dispute, Josipovic said this procedure was unfolding better than many had expected.

"I think everyone was pleasantly surprised that the agreement on the arbitrators was reached so quickly and easily. That shows our mutual trust, but also that arbitration will indeed be professional, unbiased, and that the Croatian and Slovenian public, regardless of the outcome, will be able to accept that as a reasonable solution."

Josipovic said that he met with Slovenian President Danilo Tuerk more than with any other president in the region.

Asked about a possible meeting between the two countries' prime ministers, as mentioned during Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec's recent visit to Zagreb, Josipovic said that was great because cooperation on the government level was necessary.

"Of course, it's up to the two prime ministers to agree on that. Such meetings are always welcome, especially if they are prepared well, and they can be excellent for strengthening cooperation. I think it's important to both Slovenia and Croatia to strengthen economic cooperation," Josipovic was quoted as saying.
