Croatia's Hungarian minority unveils memorial plaque for Hungarian general

STAZA, March 17 (Hina) - Members of the Hungarian national minority on Saturday marked a Hungarian national holiday celebrating the 1848 Hungarian revolution in Staza near Sunja, about 80 km southeast of Zagreb, where Hungarian General Janos Damjanic was born.

They placed a memorial plaque and laid wreaths at the building where Damjanic, who was of Serbian origin, was born in 1804. Hungary declared him a national hero and martyr.

A round table on the Hungarian revolution and Damjanic was held on this occasion. A Hungarian parliamentary delegation, representatives of Hungarian associations in Croatia and Croats in Hungary attended.
