ZAGREB, Dec 23 (Hina) - All preparations necessary for linking the
banks of the Neretva River by ferry service at Bijela, north of
Mostar, have been made, but the security issue still has not been
solved, said UNPROFOR' Chief-of-Staff, British General Charles
Ritchie, at a press conference in Zagreb on Thursday.
At the moment there are two ferries that would provide a link
between the two sides of the Neretva, and thus enable the
delivering of humanitarian assistance into Sarajevo by land from
the south, and UNPROFOR is expecting two more, said General
Ritchie. Once the ferries have begun their service, we will do
everything to protect them, said the general, adding that the exact
date of opening this ferry service could not be set as there was
lack of cooperation from both Moslem and Croat sides.
