SISAK, Nov 19 (Hina) - A Serbian national Nikola Pejnovic voluntarily
crossed over into Sisak (free Croatia) from the occupied town of
Petrinja. Pejnovic was born in the village of Inisovac in Western
Slavonia in 1939 and was a firefighter in the Petrinja Gavrilovic meat
factory. He arrived to Sisak from Petrinja (distance of 10 kilometers)
in his car via Bosnia, Serbia and Hungary.
Nikola Pejnovic told the journalists in the Sisak police that he was
prompted to come to Sisak by President Tudjman's Peace Initiative and
the message by the Prefect of the Sisak-Moslavina County Duro Brodarac
to the residents of the county that stresses the need for a peaceful
Đresolution of the hostilities.
Pejnovic also said that the living conditions of the Serbs and the few
Croats in the occupied Petrinja are disastrous, and that it is forbidden
to openly promote peace ideas as the rebels favor constant tension and
the war psychosis. The local people get food only from the humanitarian
aid supplies, and that they secretly watch Croatian TV information
program, according to Pejnovic. He also said that Serbs are fearing the
local extremists, and that at the moment there is no such leader locally
who would favor a peaceful resolution and talks with the Croats from the
other side of the disengagement line.
