FRENCH AMBASSADOR TO CROATIA VISITS NOVSKA

NOVSKA, Nov 13 (Hina) - French Ambassador to Croatia Georges Marie Chenu visited the town of Novska on Friday. The aldermen of the Novska municipality held a meeting with the French delegation led by the Ambassador Chenu. They informed their guests of the current situation in the Novska area. The aldermen pointed out that they were doing their best to retrieve the temporarily occupied locations of the Novska area in a peaceful way. In that context, the Mayor of the town, Zlatko Kos, stressed the fact that the Serb residents were returning to their homes in this municipality. On the other hand, the displaced Croats, who had been expelled from the occupied villages of the Novska municipality, could not still come back to their homes. Those villages are now in UNPA Sector West, and no Croats but only 30 of them in the village of Borovac live there any more. The French delegation was informed of the fact that Novska had already accommodated a huge number of the displaced persons and refugees, many of whom are the Moslems from Bosnia-Herzegovina. The French Ambassador spoke about the peace initiative recently proposed by France and Germany. He pointed out the importance of a negotiated settlement to the conflict on the area of the former Yugoslavia. Ambassador Chenu mentioned that the world and the international factors now realized the situation much better on those territories and they were gaining deeper insight into the state of affairs in Croatia. Ambassador Chene and the French delegation will visit the village of Stari Grabovac and then the locations in the UNPA West on Saturday. 131102 MET nov 93
