SKOPJE, Dec 16 (Hina) - Macedonia's Interior Ministry today banned
all rallies in connection with the opening of an Albanian
University in Tetovo, announced for tomorrow.
Several representatives of Albanian political parties said
they would not give up their attempt to open a university in the
Albanian language, adding that under all international conventions
every nation had a right to education in its mother tongue.
The Albanian-led Democratic Prosperity Party, which after
lengthy negotiations decided to accept four ministerial posts in
the Government, has been silent in the last few days.
Prof. Fadil Suleyman, the initiator of an Albanian university
in Tetovo, has been released from jail.
A CSCE mission in Skopje called on all political leaders to
demonstrate restraint in the dispute, offering assistance to
overcome differences.
Primary and secondary schools have curricula in the Albanian
language and some classes at the Teachers' College are taught in
Albanian. Skopje's Filological Faculty has the Albanian Language
Department.
