SARAJEVO, Nov 15 (Hina) - Sarajevo's major city road, which serves
the Holiday Inn hotel, was shut down today because of sniping
attacks on vehicles and pedestrians from Serb positions.
Trams were brought to a standstill and police warned citizens
to exercise increased caution.
Serb forces stationed in the Grbavica neighbourhood yesterday
fired two shoulder-launched missiles and a guided anti-tank rocket
at the street, wounding one pedestrian, an UNPROFOR press
conference heard today.
The anti-tank missile exploded half-way between Holiday Inn
and the Marshal Tito barracks.
According to UN spokesman Tim Spicer, this is the first time
the Serbs used this kind of projectile against a civilian target in
what can only be described as a "terrorist" attack.
Bosnian army yesterday opened mortar fire on Serb positions on
Mt Igman outside the demilitarised zone, prompting an artillery
response. Limited infantry clashes were also reported.
The shooting did not abate until late in the evening.
