ZAGREB, Nov 1 (Hina) - Head of the Croatian President's office and
head of the Croatian Commission for relations with UNPROFOR, Hrvoje
Sarinic, today sent an open letter to UN special envoy Yasushi
Akashi.
Sarinic reminded in the letter on joint efforts made towards
the organization of displaced people's visit to cemeteries on All
Saints' Day which failed because the Knin authorities did not allow
the visit.
Sarinic said that UNPROFOR once again had showed its
powerlessness and that the lack of sense won.
Sarinic said that more should be done in order that the UN
secretary-general could inform the UN Security Council on 20
January that there were some progress in the process of the
normalization of relations in Croatia, and not just to conclude
once again that UNPROFOR was powerless.
Sarinic said at the end of his letter that he expressed pain
and dissatisfaction on behalf of all those who only wanted to pay
honours to their dearest, lay flowers and light candles on their
graves, but they could not do it only because some people
identified civilization achievements with achievements made by
arms, and the international community did not find a way to oppose
it.
