A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON TUESDAY

ZAGREB, Oct 4 (Hina) - Ahead of today's session of the Croatian Parliament's House of Representatives, VJESNIK carries a front-page article headlined: "Can Government prevent inflation of ministries?" Deputies propose that ministries for environment and maritime affairs be established while the Government urges separation of the ministry of culture and education and setting up of ministries for reconstruction and privatization. Vjesnik made an interview with Predrag Haramija, secretary- general of the Croatian Peasanty Party (HSS), who said: "If the Serbian programme is aimed at creating a greater Serbia, our goal must be a modern and developed Croatia. If the Serbian programme is carried out through lies and violence, our method must be humanity and tolerance." The paper also carries an interview with Antonija Rajkovic, a journalist who spent a month in a Serb prison in Beli Manastir (UNPA East). Vjesnik runs an extensive report on yesterday's failed attempt to evict the Korkut family from their Zagreb apartment previsously owned by the former Yugoslav army. The paper says that the eviction was to be carried out on the basis of an administrative decision and not a valid court decision. The eviction was put off because thirteen-year-old Ana Korbut had inflammation of the throat. "Mutual recognition is peace imperative," the other Zagreb daily, VECERNJI LIST, writes on the front page regarding the adoption of the latest Security Council resolution on the UN mandate in the former Yugoslavia. "What has been going on in the world organization in the last few days announces tightening of the noose around Knin despite the evident lack of time limits," the paper says. "What can Croatia and Bosnia expect from the international community? Honestly speaking, nothing! Because the international community simply does not exist. It is only an ansamble of big powers in which they more or less successfully bring into accord their own interests concerning key problems," Vecernji List says in a commentary headlined: "Clinton like Bismarck?"
