UNHCR TO RESUME BOSNIA AID CONVOYS NEXT WEEK

SARAJEVO, Oct 1 (Hina) - The Bosnian Moslem-led government and Serb representatives today reached an agreement on restoring the freedom of movement for humanitarian convoys, evacuating the wounded and exchanging the prisoners of war. UNPROFOR spokeswoman Claire Grimes told reporters in Sarajevo that the two parties met at Sarajevo airport for talks which lasted all night. The meeting was chaired by UNPROFOR civilian sector chief Sergio de Mello. The Bosnian government delegation was led by Minister Hasan Muratovic and the Serbs were represented by self- styled parliament speaker Momcilo Krajisnik. Grimes said the results of the meeting were encouraging but declined to go into details. UNHCR spokesman Kris Janowski said humanitarian aid convoys would be given full freedom of movement as of next week. However, Serb authorities yesterday denied permission to 18 UNHCR convoys to pass through Serb-held territory. The commander of the UN peace-keeping force in Bosnia, Lt. Gen. Michael Rose, and de Mello are to continue today talks with Serb military and political leaders in their stronghold of Pale. UNPROFOR military spokesman Tim Spicer said that these talks would focus on military and political issues, including the reopening of Sarajevo airport. The airport has been closed for full six days. The Serbs refused to provide guarantees for the security of flights after the latest NATO airstrikes. A UN official in Sarajevo told a Hina Sarajevo correspondent he had the impression that the Serbs were dalaying talks on the reopening of the airport. Spicer said he hoped flights would resume soon.
