SARAJEVO, Aug 16 (Hina) - No concrete results were achieved at
today's meeting in Sarajevo between delegations of UNPROFOR and the
Bosnian government, led by U.N. special envoy Yasushi Akashi and
vice-chairman of the Croat-Bosniac Federation Ejup Ganic.
After the meeting, Ganic said that the government delegation
proposed to Akashi that 'blue routes' around Sarajevo be opened
even "by force if necessary", and that UNPROFOR undertake more
determined measures in order to withdraw heavy weapons, that
endanger security of the humanitarian air lift, from the area of
Sarajevo airport.
Akashi said that in this moment no radical progress was
possible and that they would try to change the situation by policy
of little steps. He announced that he would leave for Pale, the
Serb stronghold, on Thursday in order to discuss the current
situation in Bosnia with Karadzic.
Today's meeting also focused on the situation in western
Bosnia. Akashi said that the Bosnian side agreed today "to discuss
a possibility of a meeting at higher level with representatives of
Abdic's authorities".
