HRVOJE SARINIC'S REPORT ON UNPROFOR IN CRO PARLIAMENT

ZAGREB, July 16 (Hina) - Reporting on the current UNPROFOR's mandate and activities in the Republic of Croatia, head of the Croatian commission for relations with UNPROFOR Hrvoje Sarinic addressed delegates of the Croatian Parliament's House of Representatives. "We can estimate the course of present UNPROFOR's activities as zero or negative," said Sarinic. Naturally, the main responsibility for the non-implementation of the U.N. Security Council lies with the Serb-occupying authorities in the Croatian temporarily occupied areas, stressed Sarinic. Talking about the 29 March agreement on ceasefire, signed in Zagreb, Sarinic said that "the agreement showed fruitful effects to a large extent," but it also caused some serious problems mainly because of UNPROFOR's shortcomings. UNPROFOR's mandate of such kind, with current authority and efficiency, will not be extended. Only a concrete progress in the fulfillment of Croatia's legitimate requests will be the measure which we will consider when making a final decision on UNPROFOR's mandate, said Sarinic. The Croatian leadership and Government accept the resumption of talks with representatives of the local Serbs from the temporarily occupied Croatian areas, but the talks should be held exclusively on the Croatian territory and in the presence of international factors. Sarinic stressed that the Croatian authorities consent to resume the talks not only on particular traffic and economic problems but also on political issues. 161642 MET jul 94
