OPPOSITION'S RESOLUTION ON UNPROFOR'S MANDATE

ZAGREB, July 15 (Hina) - Opposition members of both Houses of the Croatian Parliament and independent members said on Friday that on the basis of a debate held on 14 July, they adopted a resolution on the UNPROFOR's mandate in Croatia and the occupied areas. In the first part of the resolution a dissatisfaction is expressed with the work of government bodies who were involved in negotiations on the arrival and mandate of the UNPROFOR. Opposition members estimate that President Tudjman's policy toward Serbia and President Milosevic is not good for Croatia's national interest. The opposition requests that competent institutions of the European Community should draw up a plan on activities with deadlines and commitments to peacefully reintegrate occupied areas into the constitutional and legal system of the Republic of Croatia. They should ensure the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions on the control and protection of the Croatian borders toward Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and lift arms embargo from Croatia for the purpose of defence, says the resolution. The opposition requests that the executive authorities of the Republic of Croatia should suspend all political negotiations with representatives of Serbia and so-called Yugoslavia until they recognize the Republic of Croatia within its internationally recognized borders, and until Serbia stops supporting the rebel Serbs. The opposition also requests that the Croatian Office in Belgrade should be closed, as well as the Office of so-called Yugoslavia in Zagreb, if Serbia and so-called Yugoslavia do not recognize the Republic of Croatia within 30 days. The opposition thinks that the acceptance of a peace plan for Bosnia-Herzegovina should be given on condition that Croatia's occupied areas are to be peacefully reintegrated into its legal and constitutional system. 152013 MET jul 94
