ZAGREB, July 7 (Hina) - Speaking of the implementation of the
stabilization programme at a government session on Thursday,
Croatian Prime Minister Nikica Valentic announced that a certain
amount of sugar from commodity reserves would be put on the market
on Monday in order to curb the unjusitified rise in sugar prices in
recent times.
Valentic went on to say that electric power prices would be
decreased by 2 percent for industry and 1 percent for households.
Tourism Minister Niko Bulic said that the number of tourists
staying in Istra in June was 44 percent higher than in the same
month last year, while in the northern Adriatic this number was
higher by 109 percent. In Dalmatia, there were 750 percent more
foreign tourists and 425 percent more domestic tourists.
Deputy Finance Minister Bozo Prka informed the meeting about a
visit of the government delegation to Washington and their talks at
the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank for
Development and Reconstruction. He said that the talks at the IMF
focused on a USD 100 million stand-by arrangement that was to be
signed as early as September and World Bank loans worth USD 350
million.
