UNPROFOR, CROATIAN POLICE DISCUSS RETURN OF REFUGEES TO BLUE ZONE

SISAK, June 16 (Hina) - UNPROFOR and Croatian police representatives met on Thursday to discuss the organised return of refugees to the Croatian villages of Glinska Poljana and Slana, situated in the 'blue' demilitarised zone, 40 km S.E. of Zagreb. Sisak police superintendent Vladimir Milankovic told reporters after the meeting that a complete list of residents of these villages would be forwarded to UNPROFOR, which will ensure their safety during the reconstruction of the villages. Milankovic delivered to UNPROFOR representatives a written request that blue zone villages with a pre-war Croatian majority be policed by joint Croatian police and UNCIVPOL patrols. The request contained a detailed map of the area. Milankovic also asked UNPROFOR to insist with Serb rebel authorities to release Edo Vencl, who was detained by Serb troops while visiting his house on the occupied territory. Vencl was put in the Glina jail and hauled into a local kangaroo court on a trumped-up charge, said Milankovic, adding that Vencl was too old for having fought in the Croatian army. 161723 MET jun 94
