U.S. SENATORS AND CROATIAN MINISTER GRANIC FINISH TALKS

SPLIT, June 4 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister held talks today in Split (southern Croatia) with U.S. Senators Robert Dole, John Biden and Joseph Warner, and the U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, Peter Galbraith. Today's talks in Split disclosed many identical or similar standpoints of the U.S.A. and Croatia on a possible settlement to the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina and solutions to the issue of the occupied areas of Croatia (the UNPAs). For Croatia the most significant results yielded by the Split talks are the support of the U.S. senators to Croatia's efforts to seek solutions to the problem of UNPAs and the conflict in B-H simultaneously. At the meeting the U.S. senators expressed their views that it would be impossible to find the overall solution to the crisis in these regions without settlement to the problem of the UNPAs in Croatia. At a press briefing after the meeting Croatian Foreign Minister told journalist that they had talked about the current state of affairs in Bosnia-Herzegovina and in the UNPAs in Croatia. The talks also focused on the peaceful reintegration of the UNPAs in the legal system of Croatia. Minister Granic added that the firm support to the Federation of B-H had been expressed by both the U.S.A. and Croatia that would continue to back the Croat-Bosniac Federation at next negotiations and try to establish a Confederation between that entity and the Republic of Croatia as soon as possible. The U.S. senator R. Dole said: "This meeting was very meaningful and useful." The U.S. Ambassador P. Galbraith told journalists: "These were very concrete talks on the so-called Krajina and its reintegration into Croatia's state and legal system. This is our aim, which should be fulfilled in a peaceful manner." The U.S. diplomats R. Dole, J. Biden and J. Warner will leave Split for Sarajevo tomorrow to deliver the U.S. humanitarian aid to the Bosnian capital. 041934 MET jun 94
