ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - Speaking of further implementation of the
government stabilization programme at a session on Thursday, Prime
Minister Nikica Valentic announced that the government would
tighten control of financial dealings, including customs, illegal
cash transactions and commodity exchange. He stressed that each
product launched on the market would have to have a valid
declaration.
Valentic announced a budget revision in September and
introduction of excise tax as of July 1. If the current
parliamentary crisis continued, he said the government would use
its constitutional and legal authority to pass legislation on
imposing excise tax.
The prime minister also announced the reduction of some taxes
by the end of the year, including war tax. He stressed there would
be no price increases, claiming that even the slightest rise in
inflation would be a direct attack on the stabilization scheme.
Deputy Prime Minister Skegro said a significant rise in
production had been registered, but that various forms of
consumptions should be stabilized.
The government adopted a report on final preparations for this
year's tourist season. In the first four months this year there
were 12 percent of tourists more than in the same period last year,
and in May this year 60 percent more than last year.
