TALKS BETWEEN HDZ AND OPPOSITION PARTIES STILL UNCERTAIN

ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - Croatian Social Liberal Party leader Drazen Budisa, speaking on behalf of the parliamentary opposition parties, told reporters on Wednesday the opposition were ready for talks with the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). Budisa said a joint meeting announced for 1 p.m. today had not been precisely arranged by him and HDZ chief negotiator Jure Radic. "The only thing that is certain is that parliamentary opposition leaders are meeting at 1 o'clock," Budisa said, adding that the opposition would consider their views since a narrow group of negotiators had failed to reconcile the views of the opposition and the HDZ. HDZ negotiator Adam Mestrovic said he personally was for the meeting, but that he expected the main impetus to come from leaders of the two negotiating parties Radic and Budisa. The House of Representatives broke up a session last Friday to allow for talks between the HDZ and the opposition on the interpretation of the May 18 inter-party deal. The opposition has been boycotting session since Tuesday last week. 021410 MET jun 94
