PRESS CONFERENCE ON SITUATION IN U.N. SECTOR SOUTH

ZADAR, June 1 (Hina) - Joint UN, Serb and Croatian police patrols were suspended because the Serb side misinterpreted an agreement on the disengagement zone, UNPROFOR spokesman in Sector South Alun Roberts told a press conference in Zadar on Wednesday. He stressed there was no imaginary line inside the disengagement zone, as the Serbs thought. Roberts said the cease-fire agreement was respected, but pointed out there were some violations of the agreement. UNPROFOR lodged a protest with Croatian authorities because a Croatian helicopter had been seen landing on Mount Velebit last Monday. UNPROFOR also protested to the rebel Serb authorities as they failed to remove observation posts from Velebit, the spokesman said and added that the Croatian army also had observation posts there. Roberts said that the Serb side had not withdrawn heavy weapons from two locations and the Croatian side from one location. The spokesman went on to say that about 900 members of the Kenyan Battalion would soon be deployed in the disengagement zone near the Peruca dam and Drnis. 011556 MET jun 94
