ZAGREB, April 7 (Hina) - The special envoy of the U.N. Secretary
General Yasushi Akashi on Wednesday afternoon in Zagreb will meet
with Charles Redman, U.S. President's special envoy in former
Yugoslavia, said today UNPROFOR spokesman Mathew Nerzig at news
conference.
Situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina was stable during last 24
hours except in Gorazde that was targeted by four shells this
morning. Lines of confrontation are on north, northeast and
southeast from the town but greatest concern was caused by
situation in the region south of Gorazde where Serb forces moved
for five kilometers on north and now control great part of
territory south of river Drina, said Nerzig. He added that UNPROFOR
appraise Serb's strategic goal is not to conquer Gorazde.
UNPROFOR is very much encouraged with situation in U.N.
protected areas in Croatia as well as with respecting of ceasefire,
Nerzig said. The first meeting of joint commission for
implementation of the agreement will be held tomorrow at Turanj,
near Karlovac, in presence of the UNPROFOR Commander-in-Chief
general Bertrand de Lapresle.
Within of ten days Turkish military reconnaissance team will
arrive in Zagreb in order to arrange disposition of Turkish
battalion that is going to join U.N. peace forces in next following
weeks, said UNHCR spokesman.
